15 Years of Resilience
From humble beginnings in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to a global mission, our founder's story is one of unwavering hope and the transformative power of education. For 15 years, we have walked alongside girls as they redefine their futures.

2011
The foundation of our journey. Born from a profound calling to uplift women in Sierra Leone, Ruth International Missions began gathering goods and supplies to ship overseas, planting the first seeds of hope.
2018
A transformative mission trip to Freetown. Our team met women and girls face to face, listened to their stories, and deepened our commitment to walk alongside them in practical, life-giving ways.
2019
A strategic pivot to sustainable impact. We shifted from shipping goods to financially supporting women and sourcing supplies locally, strengthening communities and honoring local economies.
2027
Looking ahead to our next chapter. A mission trip focused on teaching the stages of womanhood and equipping women and girls with knowledge, dignity, and tools to thrive for generations to come.

OUR LEGACY
A Legacy of Purpose
Ruth International Missions was founded by Danita Heathington (born Williams) out of a deep desire to give back to her homeland of Sierra Leone.
Danita’s passion for this mission is deeply personal. Born and raised in Freetown, when Danita was just five, her father suddenly passed away, leaving her mother to raise three young children on her own.
Despite the immense challenges of single motherhood, Danita benefited from programs that supported her education and learning, opening doors to a brighter future. Because of those life-changing opportunities, she attended The Annie Walsh Memorial School, graduated with a law degree from Fourah Bay College, and earned a Master's in Business Administration at University of Maryland Global Campus.
Knowing firsthand the hardships that families face, Danita recognizes that women and children, especially young girls, are often left far more vulnerable than others to systemic hardships and limited opportunities.
Having experienced the life-changing power of educational support, Danita is now reaching back to do the same for the next generation. Knowing that she succeeded because others invested in her, she founded Ruth International Missions to bridge the gap between vulnerability and opportunity.
